Unlike front engine rear wheel drive where there is vast amount of
transmission options in the mid engine rear wheel drive transmission options are
somewhat limited though it does not mean there are none or just few. The problem
comes when you have longituadly mounted engine.
Below 250hp there are number of transmissions and engine combinations which are
very reliable and with the light weight of this car will be more than sufficient
to get you of red line.
The next power break is in the 250 to 400hp where with some gentle foot most of
the transmissions from Audi or Porsche will survive your daily driving. There
are plenty of alternatives that are and can be
sourced from Europe where longituadly mounted engines are more common.
However with 400+ hp engine or not wanting to be replacing transmissions every
new season the options are far fewer and come at much greater cost. One has to
look at Porsche G50 or specialty racing transmissions ranging into $5,000
and above. Ideal speed of the car is compiled in this
calculator with number of other transmission models.
With transverse mounted engines and optionally turbo charged there is F40 or
4t65e automatic transmissions that can handle
higher power rating
