The front bumper was meant to be a single piece part, though during plug making
process the fog light section was skipped as it was not definite if fog lights
where going to be part of the bumper section and only a thin indentations where
made just deep enough for lens cover to be fitted as the fog light buckets
supposed to be weather tight and also be made as separate piece and bonded at
later time. Reason for going that route was that it could be made more
symmetrical, and not knowing exactly the size and depth of those buckets. Size of
the indentations could be filled in with gel coat after the buckets where bonded
and also that time was running out during the fall and wanted to pull molds of
the bumper.
Other unknown factor was the lip and over hang to make the trunk area
presentable and not look like after though. For that purpose the area was made
extra large during plug making so that it could be cut down later when hinges
and latches where finalized and when the trunk was getting finished.
Other feature of the bumper is to collect cool and direct it to front breaks
to cool the disk via ducts that are attacked to the bumper.
The bumper is being fastened directly to the chassis with #6 bolts on the
bottom, it is also sandwiched between the front fenders and bolted to the upper
tubes. Its is also fastened to the fenders, however that is more so that the
fenders would be more stable and not move around. The bumper is also used
as fastening point for headlights. With headlights being heavy part and needing
to be sturdy and not move for very bump in the road producing shaking effect of
the light beam. The section is bolted to the chassis side extensions which are
welded on sides of the front trunkOriginal shape of the bumper was altered
from when it was pulled from original molds to accommodate change in lights shape
and mounting. The upper corners where modified in a way that inner corner
of the heights dropped an inch down. Also fastening of the bumper to the fenders
right at the wheel rim was changed to be more of flat bar rather then
bolt/screw.
More contents will be available as the part is
developed.
